Hoian.Travel is a travel guide with one purpose: to tell you what Hoi An is really like, so you can plan a trip that suits you rather than one that only looks good in photographs.

Aerial view of Hoi An Ancient Town and the Thu Bon River

Hoi An is one of the most written-about towns in Vietnam, and much of what is written sounds the same: every street is charming, every dish is the best, every tour is unmissable. Real trips are not like that. The Ancient Town is beautiful and it is also crowded in the evening. The rainy season is quiet and it can also flood. Some experiences are worth every hour, and others are fine to skip.

We started Hoian.Travel to describe the town as it is. Our guides aim to give you the full picture, including the trade-offs, so that you can decide for yourself.

What we stand for

Honest

We describe the drawbacks as well as the highlights: crowds, heat, weather, tourist traps and the things that are simply not for everyone.

Practical

Every guide is written to be used. How to get there, when to go, how long it takes and what to do if the weather turns.

Local in focus

We concentrate on Hoi An and the places you can reach from it: the countryside, the beaches, Da Nang, My Son and Central Vietnam.

What you will find here

The site is organised around the questions travellers actually ask before and during a trip to Hoi An.

  • Things to Do – festivals, food experiences, craft villages and time on the water, with notes on what each is really like.
  • Itineraries – ready-made plans for one day, three days, five days and a full week, so you can see how the pieces fit together.
  • Travel Tips – when to visit, getting here and around, budgeting and the mistakes worth avoiding.
  • Places and experiences – the Ancient Town, the villages and rice fields around it, the beaches, and day trips across Central Vietnam.
  • Honest reviews – what a place or activity is really like, who it suits, and when it is better to skip it.

New guides are added regularly, and the sections will grow as the site does.

How we review

  1. Both sides, every time. A review says what is good, what is not, and who the place suits best.
  2. Clear about what we know. We separate first-hand experience from general information, and we avoid quoting prices that change often.
  3. Partner content is labelled. If an article is about a partner or was produced with their support, we say so on the page.
  4. Kept up to date. Hoi An changes with the seasons and the years. When something changes, we revise the guide.
  5. Open to correction. If you find something that is out of date or simply wrong, tell us and we will fix it.
